Saturday with Mum

Saturday Flyboy took me and #1 son up to see my Mum in Nelsons Bay.  Its a 3.5 hour trip each way and thankfully Flyboy does the driving.  Apart from visiting with Mum, my sister and her husband the main reason for the trip was to hand over my Grandfather's WWII medals to Flyboy that Mr. Little Place and I arranged for him, along with his war records from the Australian War Memorial and this wonderful photo of him.

Grandmother & Grandson

This was the first time Mum had seen them. My Mum is the eldest child, but her Mum and Dad divorced when she was little and her brother and her were left in the care of their paternal Grandmother.  Pop went on to marry again and have another 5 kids, and the eldest grandson from the second family has/had the original medals.   We actually have one more than Pop was granted, which is interesting.  For some reason Pop didn't have the 1939-45 War Medal you can seen another picture of my Pop with his medals on here.  Mum also had a step father who served in WWII and we are entitled to have his medals as well. I am keeping them in case #1 Son ends up in the army which is what he wants to do when he finishes his degree in nursing.  If he doesn't end up with them then we will have them cast for Flyboy to wear as well.

  1. It is sad when family things disappear down other family branches but oh so wonderful to see them brought back to people where they are appreciated.
    Happy new memories.
